The Programme

High Performance CBT has developed a number of effective approaches to enhance your performance in the areas of sport and the performing arts

This involves firstly:

  • Identifying the problem areas

Then a detailed analysis of the pattern of:
  • Thoughts
  • Emotions
  • Physical Reactions
  • Behaviour

Then through a combination of education and treatment techniques to break the cycle a new pattern can be established.

Previous successes

A TV presenter who was suffering increasing levels of panic in front of the camera. Through treatment she was able to overcome her anxiety and continue her career

An actor with high anxiety and low self belief learnt how to deal with auditions and stage fright

A golfer. He kept tensing and freezing when putting. by the end of the programme he was able to take the shot with ease

A professional pianist was suffering increasing levels of anxiety when he performed and avoiding certain pieces as a consequence of a mistake in a previous concert. Through following the techniques he regained his confidence and was able to perform at a higher level than before

The professional rugby player who suffered a traumatic injury in a game became hesitant while playing having a negative effect on his performance.  This was resolved through the programme enabling him to go back to playing normally

The singer suffering with stress and panic when having to go on stage was able to gain control of her stress and overcame her fear of public performance

The Performance Anxiety Cycle

This is often triggered by a major or even minor traumatic incident, a time when  something does go wrong that causes anxiety. The fear of this happening again leads to worry of the failure happening again. This means your focus is on stopping your fear coming true not on performing well. Anxiety is triggered leading to physical changes that can dramatically affect your ability to perform at a high level. This can become a self fulfilling prophecy leading to more failure and an increasing fear each time you have to perform. This can even lead to eventually giving up or avoiding completely!

Breaking the Cycle

The techniques used in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Positive Psychology have been proven to be very effective at breaking this cycle and at helping people to perform at a much higher level.

Over the past 15 years we have helped many people change their lives. They gained more self belief, learnt to overcome their fears and to push past boundaries that were limiting them.
